Ministry Staff

Scott Snyder

Lead Pastor

Pastor Scott joined the staff of South Baptist Church in August 2010. He came to us from upstate New York, where he served on the staff of Breesport Baptist Church for 14 years. During that time, Pastor Scott served as the Associate Pastor of Youth and Worship for nine years, and then as Lead Pastor for five years.

Growing up in a pastor’s home, Scott spent several years of his life growing up in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Florida. And it was at the young age of six that Scott made the biggest decision in life, to trust Christ as his personal Savior and Lord.

Upon graduating from high school, Scott enrolled at Clarks Summit University (formerly Baptist Bible College), Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania to study for the work of the ministry. He graduated in 1997 with a B.S. in Bible, was ordained in 1999, and completed his Master’s Degree at Baptist Bible Seminary in 2012. Scott’s life and ministry verses can be found in 1 Timothy 1:12-14, which says, “I thank Him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because He judged me faithful, appointing me to His service, though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.” (ESV)

God has blessed Scott and his wife Carol with three children, all of whom are young adults.

Steve Barton

Worship and Outreach Pastor

Pastor Steve joined the staff of South Baptist Church in September 2023. He was a Worship Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin for 15 years in his first pastoral ministry experience and most recently a Lead Pastor in Cortland, NY where he and his wife served for 10 years.

God used people in his home church in Binghamton, NY and mentors at Clarks Summit University (formerly Baptist Bible College) to begin to kindle the spark of desire to be a pastor and upon graduation from college and finishing his M. Div. with an internship in a local church in Elyria, OH, that ember began to burn brighter while serving in WI. With a love of helping people connect to God through His Word, the Bible, and passionately use worship to help them express their love for God outwardly, he loves to take the opportunities God provides for multiplying ministry in whatever ways are available along the way.

In his spare time, Pastor Steve enjoys reading, playing around with technology, gardening and watching sports (especially basketball and football). Although he tries to be loyal to his New York roots (and sports teams) he has been swayed to root for the Green Bay Packers and the Golden State Warriors over the years. Maybe he will jump on the Lions and Pistons bandwagon someday, however, he is determined to remain a Syracuse University fan when it comes to college sports.

God has blessed Steve and his wife Jennifer with one daughter, Tori, who attends Clarks Summit University in Pennsylvania.

Steve Powers

Youth Ministries Director

Mr. Powers is our Youth Ministries Director at South, and he comes to us with many years of teaching experience! He was a career teacher, and then has been willing to follow God’s leading into this position. He’s a strong student of the Word, communicates it very well, and is having a blast leading our teenagers to know God more.  He oversees the Middle and High School Youth Group, which meets on Wednesday nights, and also leads our 9:30 Bible Study time with the students.

Steve and his wife Wendy have four adult kids, and one sweet grandson.

Kelly Roeper

Children’s Ministries Director

Kelly has been married to her husband, Mike, since December 2003.  They have 4 children: Autumn, Calvin, Kate, and Nora.  From Kelly – “I grew up in a home where I was taught the Bible from a very young age and attended church regularly.  When I was around the age of 5, I realized I was a sinner and I needed Jesus to save me so I accepted him as my Savior. I was baptized when I was 10. I struggled through my teen years with lots of doubt about whether I ‘did’ or ‘said’ the right things to be saved. I was trusting in my own works and ability when I needed to rest in the work of Christ on the cross and His resurrection. I’m thankful for God’s grace and continued work in my life as he makes me more like Christ.”

Kelly oversees our Babies through 5th Grade at South.  In her spare time, she loves baking, playing games, eating anything chocolate, and sitting on the porch drinking coffee with her husband.

Micah 6:8 “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.”
